“Where I’m From” FRMA Students Poetry Exhibit at Aurora Public Library Exposición de Poesía de Estudiantes de FRMA “De Dónde Soy” En la Biblioteca Pública de Aurora

 

“Where I’m From” FRMA Students Poetry Exhibit at Aurora Public Library
The Aurora Public Library is currently exhibiting until April 30 a digital and print collection of poetry called “Where I’m From” written by 8th grade students from the Fred Rodgers Magnet Academy (FRMA). You can also join our FRMA poets as they read their poems in person to the community on Wednesday, April 17th from 5:30p.m.-6:30 p.m. at the Santori Aurora Public Library Atrium.

Focusing on Nostalgic Reclamation while utilizing the theme “MY AURORA”, students reflected on their past and ‘where they are from’, literally and figuratively. Students considered their childhood homes, family, neighborhoods, schools and community, and writers understood that there is power in their story. As an element of a four-part interdisciplinary Nostalgia Project ending with a four-part podcast, students shared their oral and written histories in the format of narrative poetry inspired by George Ella Lyon’s poem “Where I’m From” for the purpose of healing after the pandemic and fueling resilience in each classroom and school.

Simon Rodriguez, City of Aurora’s Youth Services Manager, created a proposal for this project and Dr. Lisa Dallacqua, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, helped to make the Nostalgia Project a central and important part of our curriculum. The 8th grade team of teachers who led this project at the school are: Cynthia Martinez (Social Studies), Laura Krueger (Language Arts), Bethany Morton (Honors Algebra), Lisa Pena (Science) and Mara Zdanowska (Former Science Teacher).

The complete collection of poems is on display at the Santori Aurora Public Library until April 30. Partial collections are on display at the Eola Road Branch and West Branch.

Exposición de Poesía de Estudiantes de FRMA “De Dónde Soy” En la Biblioteca Pública de Aurora

La Biblioteca Pública de Aurora actualmente exhibe hasta el 30 de abril una colección de poesía digital e impresa llamada “De Dónde Soy” escrita por estudiantes de octavo grado de la Academia Fred Rodgers Magnet (FRMA). Tambien pueden ver a nuestros poetas de FRMA mientras leen sus poemas en persona a la comunidad el miércoles 17 de abril de 5:30p.m. a 6:30p.m. en el atrio de la biblioteca pública Santori Aurora.

Centrándose en la recuperación de la nostalgia mientras utilizaban el tema “MI AURORA”, los estudiantes reflexionaron sobre su pasado y “de dónde son”, literal y figurativamente. Los estudiantes consideraron los hogares, la familia, los vecindarios, las escuelas y la comunidad de su infancia, y los escritores comprendieron que hay poder en su historia. Como elemento de un Proyecto Nostalgia interdisciplinario de cuatro partes que finaliza con un podcast de cuatro partes, los estudiantes compartieron sus historias orales y escritas en el formato de poesía narrativa inspirada en el poema “De Dónde Soy” de George Ella Lyon con el propósito de curar después de la pandemia y fomentando la resiliencia en cada clase y escuela.

Simon Rodriguez, Gerente de Servicios Juveniles de la Ciudad de Aurora, creó una propuesta para este proyecto y la Dra. Lisa Dallacqua, Superintendente Asistente de Currículo e Instrucción, ayudó a hacer del Proyecto Nostalgia una parte central e importante de nuestro plan de estudios. El equipo de maestros de octavo grado que lideraron este proyecto en la escuela son: Cynthia Martínez (Estudios Sociales), Laura Krueger (Artes del Lenguaje), Bethany Morton (Álgebra con Honores), Lisa Peña (Ciencias) y Mara Zdanowska (ex maestra de Ciencias).

La colección completa de poemas está en exhibición en la Biblioteca Pública de Santori Aurora hasta el 30 de abril. Las colecciones parciales están en exhibición en sus sucursales de Eola Road y West.
